ICPHSO Meeting to Help Manufacturers Innovate While Ensuring Safety Compliance
February 3, 2015 | More than 700 product safety professionals from around the globe will convene at the ICPHSO 2015 Annual Meeting and Training Symposium, taking place in Orlando, Florida from February 23-26.
The Toy Industry Association (TIA) has announced that it will be participating in the symposium for the 22nd consecutive year. TIA is a founding member of ICPHSO and a supporter of the organization’s efforts to ensure and enhance the safety of products manufactured and sold in the global marketplace.
“New Frontiers in Consumer Product Safety” is the theme for the four-day symposium, which will focus on equipping the ICPHSO community of regulators, retailers, manufacturers, consumer advocates, standards and testing organizations, and other product safety professionals with the information needed to anticipate, keep pace with, and help evolve the product safety landscape.
Based on feedback received from past participants, the opening day of the symposium will provide attendees with in-depth background information on a number of important topics – such as green chemistry, toxicology, human factors, and consumer product regulation.
Throughout the rest of the conference, plenary and breakout sessions led by experts from government, consumer groups, industry, and academia, will cover best practices and new tools to help companies understand requirements and ensure compliance in the ever-changing global marketplace. On day three, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) will host morning breakout sessions related to compliance courses and case studies, human factor considerations, and CPSC’s 2015 agenda. CPSC Chairman Elliot Kaye will deliver the day’s keynote address over lunch.
Day four will focus on emerging safety issues – including those related to 3D printing, digital technology and the impact of social media on safety communications.
“The annual ICPHSO conference is a must-attend event for consumer product safety professionals worldwide,” said Alan Kaufman, TIA SVP of technical affairs and ICPHSO president-elect and chair of the 2015 symposium. “We are looking forward to a robust schedule of presentations, discussions and networking opportunities among a wide range of stakeholders in the global safety supply chain who are committed to compliance, responsible sourcing, corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and more.”
Created in 1993, the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization (ICPHSO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing forums for the exchange of ideas and information on health and safety issues related to consumer products manufactured and marketed in the global marketplace. TIA was a founding member of the organization; along with Kaufman, TIA VP of standards and regulatory affairs Joan Lawrence sits on the Board of Directors. TIA is a sponsor organization for the 2015 event.
